Adolescence is a time of new experiences, discovering one’s identity and building different relationships — but it’s also a period often marked by increased anxiety.

From academic pressure and social challenges to identity exploration and hormonal changes, adolescents face a quagmire of stressors that can leave them feeling overwhelmed.

Anxiety in adolescence is common. It can show up as constant worry, irritability, restlessness, trouble sleeping, school avoidance, or even physical symptoms like headaches or stomach aches. Social media can amplify these feelings, with the constant comparison and fear of missing out fuelling insecurities.

When to Seek Help

Open communication with trusted adults, regular physical activity, mindfulness techniques, and professional support when needed can make a world of difference. It's important for adolescents to know they’re not alone — many others feel the same way, and there’s no shame in asking for help.

Supporting adolescents means listening without judgment, providing reassurance, and encouraging healthy coping strategies. With the right tools and support, adolescents can learn to manage anxiety and build resilience that will serve them well for the future. Sometimes seeking advice from an expert is needed to help both adolescent and parents navigate the best path forward.
